JAPANESE ART COLLECTOR BUYS 2 FEET OF OLD ROPE FOR £1,000

A Mr Yoshi Nakamura from Kagoshima, Japan, recently secured an artwork by Portrait Of the Artist As A Cyborg for 2,200 Yen (£1,000). The work consists of a two-foot long piece of rope with a customised Art Zero label. Mr Nakamura, who runs a vending and business machine company, has an extensive private art collection which includes work by Duchamp, Klein, Beuys, Kippenberger and Emin. (Independent, 8 March 2004)
