Michael Blackburn's ART ZERO

THE WHITE TRIANGLE

Triangle at Binbrook

On the 5th and 6th August 1999 with the assistance of Dr Geoffrey Matthews I constructed a white triangle out of asbestos gutters and old bricks (painted white) on a hillside just outside Binbrook in Lincolnshire. The triangle was about 6 to 7 metres in height and constructed in such a way as to appear as a perfect equilateral when viewed from a certain spot at the corner of the nearby road.

In keeping with the ethos of Art Zero, the triangle was constructed out of materials (and tools) that were found on site. As a result it was quite small in size and, although clearly visible from the chosen viewing point, presented a minimal image to the viewer.
